Our Philosophy
Our philosophy recognizes each child as an individual person who has individual rights and is developing at his/her own unique pace. Children learn best through play and need an environment that is secure, predictable, nurturing, and supporting.
This philosophy embodies exploring concepts with our senses, instilling a sense of wonder, and developing critical thinking skills to develop a love of learning. We believe that childhood experiences are all a part of who children become and we treasure those moments.
Children with special learning requirements will be included whenever possible and appropriate, and when the needs of all the centre’s children are considered. The centre reserves the right to make the final decision.
Many themes are explored during the year, including multicultural activities, seasonal and weather concepts, shapes and colours, letters and numbers, etc. Our themes are based on an ever-changing, flexible two-year rotation and are customized to appeal to the children currently in the program. Example themes include: freshwater animals, under the sea, dinosaurs, and winter fun.
Children will also be learning sign language (up to 90 signs), performing science experiments, and cooking activities. Please note that activities offered during free play are optional and by choice… students may help with the cooking but they do not have to eat it!
Arts and crafts are always offered during free play and children are encouraged to keep their art and look at the progress… but it’s the process that is important, not the final product.
