Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question for us? Check the list below… Chances are someone else has already asked that question and you’ll find the answer here.

Q: How large are your class sizes?

A: Class size varies from day to day.  The daycare is licensed to provide care for up to eight children at once.

Q: Does my child have to be potty trained to attend your daycare?

A: No, but parents are required to supply all diapers and wipes as well as an extra change in clothes in case an “accident” occurs.

Q: Do you offer part-time daycare? (E.g., fewer than five days a week?)

A: Yes, some children attend fewer than five days a week, but you need to need to book a minimum of two regularly scheduled days a week in order to enroll your child in our program.

Q: Do you allow drop-in visits?

A: yes, but only for children already enrolled in our program. After the regularly scheduled two days or more per week, you can schedule extra days on top of your two or more regular visits a week, if we have the space available.

Q: Do I have to pack a lunch for my child?

A: Yes, and please include two snacks as well (one for the morning and one for the afternoon).

Q: How much time is spent outdoors?

A: Lots! We believe strongly in the health benefits of fresh air for growing children. Weather permitting, the children will spend one hour outside every morning and then another hour outside in the afternoon. When the weather is great, the outside time is even longer.

Q: Do you accept subsidies?

A: Yes, we do. To learn if you are eligible for a provincial childcare subsidy, click here.

Q: Do I still have to pay for a class if my child is absent?

A: Yes. Payment does not vary due to parental leave, family vacation, or illness. Paying  for missed classes secures your child’s continued enrollment.

Q: What if the daycare provider is ill, or closes the daycare for a holiday or vacation time?

A: You do not have to pay. If the daycare closes because the staff is sick or for holidays or vacation time, those missed days will not be added to your monthly bill.

Q: Are you inspected by the provincial government licencing officer?

A: Yes, we have regular on-site inspections, and those reports are always hung in the lobby for parents to read.

Q: Do you have an up-to-date First Aid Licence?

A: I sure do.

Q: Do you do “field trips?”

A: Yes, we do take field trips on occasion. Destinations include the playground at Cedar Grove Elementary, Bonnybrook Beach, the Sechelt public pool, and occasionally the local McDonald’s for ice cream. ;-)

  • There are so many words which describe Sheila's incredible talent as a teacher and caregiver. She is loving, enthusiastic, creative, patient and so much more.

Sheila cares for each child individually, she listens and understands each one so well. We have had two boys lucky enough to spend time at Sheila's and they have both learned so much through the monthly theme's, creative activity and play. It is obvious how much time and preparation is put into every day to make learning fun for everyone. She is a master at teaching respect, friendship and fairness to the children.

Thank you Sheila for all you do, we don't know what we'd do without you!

    -- Ward & Nancy Ellis-Winters (Ethan and Zachary's parents)

I can't say enough about my experience with Sheila! She is absolutely wonderful with the children. She's loving, creative, and nurturing. She monitors their behavior carefully and helps them cultivate positive communication skills even as she teaches them the importance of healthy boundaries.

-- Brenda Gerbrandt, whose two children each attended Sheila's daycare for two years
